With its proliferation of international and ethnic restaurants, the leafy village of Crouch End in North
London, finally has a great British pub and dining room to be proud of.
Formerly the Princess Alexandra, Villiers Terrace on Park Road, offers straight forward, seasonal
modern British food alongside a carefully compiled wine list, premium beers and creative cocktails.
Beneath the traditional pub exterior, Villiers Terrace exudes style and sophistication. Interior
designer, Paul Daly, combines classic ‘local’ surroundings with distinguished glamour. Vintage
chesterfield sofas, an original oak floor, a handsome log bar, exposed brickwork, wood panelling and
open fireplace are accentuated by opulent, glittering touches – think sparkling chandeliers, midnight
blue velvet thrones, large art deco mirrors, leather studded chairs and flashes of black and gold.
Outside, the elegant dining terrace allows you to survey the hustle and bustle of Crouch End whilst
the brand new back garden will provide a magical oasis in which to make the most out of the great
British weather.
Food is courtesy of head chef, Richard Teague. Bold, Blighty-inspired starters include English
asparagus with deep fried poached egg and vinaigrette; slow braised pig cheeks with chorizo and
broad beans; as well as a Stilton, blood orange, beetroot and watercress salad. Main courses feature
Gloucester Old Spot roast pork belly with roast garlic mash and apple sauce; slow cooked rabbit with
pappardelle, tomato and fennel; and pan fried skate with sprouting broccoli, chilli and anchovy.
Teague’s traditional desserts prove an excellent end to any meal. Treat yourself to sticky toffee
pudding with caramel and honeycomb ice cream; warm chocolate fondant; or bread and butter
pudding with custard.
Just as you would expect, the Sunday roasts sing for themselves. Choose from Haughley Farm
freerange chicken, 28 day aged roast rib eye of beef or slow roast shoulder of lamb,
all served with duck fat roasted potatoes, parsnips, honey glazed carrots and Savoy cabbage.
The international wine list has something to suit all taste and budgets and, with the majority of bins
under £30, it represents excellent value for money. Bottled beers on offer include Meantime Organic
Pilsner and Old Speckled Hen whilst cocktail connoisseurs will enjoy the mix of modern and classic
creations, complete with a dedicated martini selection.
Children are not forgotten with their very own menu. For just £4.50, little ones can feast on dishes
such as healthy home-made mini burgers, cottage pie and small fry fish and chips, all available with
baked beans and greens and their choice of ice cream. A fruity selection of freshly made juices and
smoothies are also on offer, to help make sure they get their five-a-day.
Just like its superpub counterparts, Villiers Terrace is not content with just offering high quality
food and drink. DJs, live music acts and cabaret performers make regular appearances to ensure
your evening is even more than you expected.
